The prostate is a walnut-sized gland that is part of the male reproductive system. It is located below the bladder and surrounds the urethra. Its main function is to produce part of the seminal fluid that nourishes and transports sperm.
The most common prostate diseases include: prostatitis (inflammation), benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH) which causes enlargement, and prostate cancer, which is the most common cancer in men.
It is recommended that men over 40 years of age undergo regular prostate check-ups for early detection.
